Empowering Families with Clarity and Support
At Grounded Roots Family Development Center, we specialize in providing comprehensive psychological assessments to help families understand their child’s unique needs, abilities, and challenges. Our evaluations are tailored to uncover the strengths and opportunities that will empower your child to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
About the Assessment Process
-
A psychological assessment is a detailed and personalized process designed to evaluate how a child thinks, learns, and behaves. It helps identify underlying factors that may influence their development, behavior, or academic performance.
Assessments can provide answers to questions like:
Why is my child struggling in school?
How can I better support their emotional and social development?
Does my child have a condition like Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or a learning disability?
What are my child’s strengths, and how can we build on them?
-
Our clinician has expertise in evaluating a wide range of concerns, including:
Neurodevelopmental Disorders: Autism, ADHD, and tic/Tourette’s disorders
Learning Disabilities: Dyslexia, dysgraphia, and other academic challenges
Giftedness and Twice-Exceptionality (2e): Identifying advanced abilities alongside learning or emotional challenges
Social and Emotional Concerns: Anxiety, OCD, or behavioral difficulties
-
At Grounded Roots, we understand that every child is unique, and we are dedicated to providing personalized care that empowers children and their families. Here’s what sets Grounded Roots apart:

We know that parents are the experts on their own children. That’s why we prioritize collaboration, listening to your concerns, and involving you throughout the process. We aim to empower families with the knowledge and tools to confidently support their child.
Comprehensive and Actionable Insights
Our assessments go beyond identifying concerns; they provide clear, actionable recommendations for home, school, and beyond. Whether it’s strategies for learning, social skills development, or emotional well-being, we ensure you leave with a roadmap for success.
Lived Experience and Compassion
As a clinic founded by a clinician with lived experience of neurodevelopmental differences, we bring a unique perspective and empathy to our work. We understand what you and your child are facing because we’ve walked similar paths.
Commitment to Growth
We believe in nurturing potential and supporting long-term growth. From the initial evaluation to follow-up care, we are here to guide and support your child’s journey to thrive.
Your Partner in Advocacy
Navigating school systems and accommodations can be challenging. Grounded Roots equips you with the information and confidence to advocate effectively for your child’s needs, helping them succeed in both academic and home environments.
-
An evaluation is more than a diagnosis—it’s a roadmap for success. With the insights gained, you can:
Advocate for appropriate accommodations in school (IEPs and 504 plans).
Understand your child’s learning style and how to best support them.
Access targeted interventions to address specific needs.
Help your child develop confidence and unlock their full potential.
-
At Grounded Roots Family Development Center, we pride ourselves on offering a tailored, family-centered assessment experience designed to meet your child’s unique needs. From start to finish, our goal is to provide clarity, compassion, and actionable insights to help your child thrive.
1. Personalized Intake Session
Every child’s journey begins with an Intake Session. This session typically takes place without the child present, so that we can address all your concerns and questions candidly. During this meeting, we take the time to:
Understand your concerns and specific questions about your child’s development, behavior, or learning.
Gather a detailed history, including academic, social, and emotional milestones.
Discuss what you hope to gain from the assessment process.
This initial session ensures we design an evaluation plan that is customized to address your child’s unique situation. This session typically lasts approximately 90 minutes.
2. Assessment Session(s)
Grounded Roots uses evidence-based assessments that suit your child’s needs.
Testing is conducted in a calm, supportive environment where your child feels comfortable.
We use a combination of standardized tools, observational techniques, and rating scales to gain a comprehensive understanding of your child’s strengths and challenges.
Sessions are scheduled to fit your family’s needs, allowing for breaks and adjustments to ensure accurate and reliable results. Depending on the age of the child, testing typically takes 3-6 hours, over 1 or 2 days.
3. Feedback Session
After the assessment, our clinician analyzes the data and reviews the findings. During this session:
We explain the results in clear, parent-friendly terms.
We answer all your questions to ensure you feel confident and informed.
We provide tailored recommendations to support your child’s development at home, in school, and in other environments.
You will receive a comprehensive written report that includes:
An overview of the findings and how they relate to your concerns.
Specific recommendations for interventions, accommodations, and strategies tailored to your child’s needs.
A roadmap for the next steps, whether it’s accessing school supports, therapy, or additional resources.
5. Ongoing Support and Guidance
Our partnership doesn’t end with the final report. We offer:
Follow-up consultations to help you implement recommendations.
Guidance for navigating IEPs, 504 plans, and school accommodations.
Resources and referrals for additional therapies or interventions if needed.
A separate feedback for older children or adolescents in order to explain any diagnoses to them in child-friendly terms.
